This homemade strawberry jam is made with just three simple, wholesome ingredients: fresh strawberries, organic raw honey, and organic chia seeds. It’s a delicious, naturally sweet spread that is dairy-free, gluten-free, and lower in sugar than many traditional jams.
Instead of using flour or other thickeners, I use chia seeds to give the jam a naturally thicker, jam-like consistency. Chia seeds are a simple way to add texture while keeping the recipe gluten-free.
This strawberry chia jam is also incredibly easy to make. I decided to create my own version because I wanted to make healthier choices for my family and learn how to make homemade jams from scratch. Once I made this one, I knew I wanted to experiment with other flavors too—so stay tuned for more homemade jam recipes on the blog!

Ingredients
1 tablespoon organic chia seeds
1 cup organic strawberries, sliced
2 tablespoons organic raw honey

Steps:
- Cook the strawberries: Place the sliced strawberries in a non-stick saucepan over medium heat. Cook for 3–5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the strawberries begin to soften and release their juices. Then, use a wooden spatula or potato masher to gently mash the strawberries to your desired consistency. For a chunkier jam, leave some strawberry pieces intact; for a smoother texture, mash them more thoroughly.
- Add the honey: Add the organic raw honey to the cooked strawberries and stir well until the honey is fully incorporated. Continue stirring gently to ensure the mixture is evenly combined.
- Add the chia seeds: Stir in the organic chia seeds and mix well to combine. Continue cooking for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the chia seeds begin to thicken the mixture and give the jam a soft, spreadable consistency.
- Cool the jam: Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the strawberry jam cool for 3–5 minutes. The jam will continue to thicken as it cools, reaching a deliciously soft and spreadable consistency.
- Transfer and serve: Give the jam one final stir, then transfer it to a clean glass container. You can enjoy it right away with toast or bread, or use it as a delicious topping or layer for cookies, ice cream, yogurt, or cheesecake.
- Storage: Store the jam in the refrigerator for 1–2 weeks or freeze it for up to 3 months. If freezing, leave some space in the container to allow for expansion.
